Greater Binghamton Health Center
The Greater Binghamton Health Center (GBHC) provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services for adults and children who are seriously mentally ill. GBHC is a teaching and learning institution which provides many opportunities for Clinical Internships to a variety of students training for professional careers in social work, psychology, nursing, therapeutic recreation, dietary and health information management. Affiliated with Columbia University through the Geriatric Fellowship Program, GBHC provides a "training ground" for psychiatric residents to gain experience in diagnosis, treatment, research methods and general clinical skills.
For adults needing inpatient care, the Center provides a wide range of treatment services based on a holistic care model, including an Admission Treatment Service, an Intensive Treatment Service, a Rehabilitative Psychiatric Care Service, Geropsychiatric Services and four inpatient treatment malls.
Adult Residential and Transitional Living Programs include a Transitional Living Unit and a Family Care Program.
Services provided to individuals who have been discharged include a Prepaid Mental Health Plan, Clinic Services, Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Case Management, and Vocational services. A Geriatric Mobile Team addresses the mental health needs of persons 65 or older in the GBHC catchment area.
GBHC now offers inpatient services for Children and Adolescents between the ages of 5-17. This 14 bed unit offers treatment and intervention to children presenting psychiatric symptoms at their highest level of acuity. The inpatient unit provides a holistic approach to care and treatment with the primary goal of rapid stabilization of symptoms and return to the family. Adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 are served in the Adolescent Day Treatment Program and the Adolescent Crisis Residence. The Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center provides clinic services to those under 18 years of age, and a Children and Youth Mobile Mental Health Team provides services to children through community agency consultations.
Greater Binghamton Health Center's vision is to be a Center of Excellence in the Promotion of Mental Health by offering quality, innovative treatment in a compassionate, therapeutic and safe environment. Our mission is to provide a safe environment, acquire and integrate best practices throughout our organization, achieve desired outcomes for patients and other stakeholders, and provide state-of-the-art technology and training for all GBHC staff.
Greater Binghamton Health Center can be reached by public transportation, and various community agencies are located on its campus, including: Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic, SUNY Upstate Medical University Clinical Campus, Crime Victims Assistance Center and the Civil Air Patrol.
