About Buffalo Psychiatric Center

For more than 130 years, the Buffalo Psychiatric Center has served the people of Western New York. The BPC's mission is to operate in collaboration with the local mental health systems of Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties to serve individuals with serious mental illness in a way that empowers the recipient and fosters hope and recovery.

The main campus hosts a child care center with after school and vacation programs. Health and wellness facilities are available to staff at no charge. Continuing education is strongly promoted and supported and includes programs such as State University at Buffalo Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds as well as discipline specific continuing education.

BPC's main campus is located on the West Side of Buffalo in the city's Elmwood Village, easy to reach by city streets and expressways and near many museums, shops, restaurants as well as Buffalo State College. The main campus includes no longer used National Historic Landmark buildings that are being redeveloped by a not for profit group. Residential and outpatient work settings are located throughout the counties we serve.

Western New York offers a superb quality of life. Buffalo and its surrounding suburbs have among the most affordable housing in the nation. Sports enthusiasts enjoy major and minor league teams, including the Buffalo Bills (NFL), Buffalo Sabres (NHL), and Buffalo Bisons (AAA baseball). The metropolitan area has world class theaters, restaurants, and a philharmonic orchestra led by noted conductor JoAnn Falletta. Western New York is home to numerous public and private colleges and universities.
