Information for Military Personnel & Their Families

In recognition of the contribitions made by the Armed Forces of the United States – – The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves – – the New York State Office of Mental Health thanks military personnel and their families for their dedicated service.
We are proud to offer outreach, information and referral services, and counseling to support service members, their families, and veterans during deployment, reintegration, and post–deployment periods.
Publications
OMH has published many brochures, toolkits, and items that address issues involving military personnel and veterans such as depression, bipolar, post-traumatic stress disorder.
JBFCS Home Again: Veterans and Families Initiative
Home Again Veterans and Families Initiative of JBFCS trains community service providers who work directly with veterans; the trainers - one of whom are veterans - are specially trained in how community providers can understand the strengths of military service and how to translate that in to civilian situations - employment, education, family stabilization and mental health care. Our training team also includes a clinician with expertise in evidence-based trauma treatment. Home Again addresses assumptions about military service that impede reintegration and success post service. They dispel myths about veterans so that the providers will be veteran-friendly and effective.
Home Again trained over 800 providers in New York City in the last year, including those who provide educational opportunities, stable housing, substance use counseling, job readiness, family stabilization services and mental health interventions.
