Office of Mental Health Releases Behavioral Health Organization Portal
The New York State Office of Mental Health has added the Behavioral Health Organization (BHO) Performance Metrics Portal to its Statistics and Reports web page. The BHO Performance Metrics Portal provides access to reports pertaining to the BHO initiative, which oversees the transition to managed care for Medicaid recipients in New York State who receive mental health and substance use disorder services. Beginning in January 2012, the State contracted with five BHOs charged with overseeing inpatient mental health care, substance use disorder inpatient detoxification, and chemical dependence inpatient rehabilitation for fee-for-service Medicaid enrollees.
The BHO Performance Metrics Portal reports track performance measures derived from aggregated Medicaid claims data pertaining to the provision of mental health and substance use disorder services. The metrics emphasize improving rates of timely follow-up treatment post discharge, timely filling of appropriate medication prescriptions post discharge, and reducing rates of readmission. The BHO Portal reports contains 35 measures of performance across these domains that are calculated quarterly showing data for the given calendar quarter and year-to-date. Metrics are reported at statewide and regional levels with data going back to 2010. More information about the implementation of the BHO Initiative can be found on the OMH web site at http://www.omh.ny.gov/omhweb/bho/.
