Historic Patient Characteristics Survey
Summary Reports

You have reached the archived version of the New York State Office of Mental Health’s Patient Characteristics Survey (PCS) web page. While this page will continue to display the historic reports, it is no longer being updated.

The new, dynamic Patient Characteristics Survey Portal has replaced this page.

The Patient Characteristics Survey (PCS) collects demographic, clinical, and service-related information for each person who receives a mental health service during a specified one-week period. All programs licensed or funded (directly or indirectly) by the NYS Office of Mental Health are required to complete the survey. The PCS is conducted biennially and receives data from over 4,000 programs serving approximately 170,000 people during the week.

Survey information is used for planning and program evaluation by the Office of Mental Health and local governmental units. Survey results are also used to describe New York State's mental health system to state and federal funding agencies and legislative bodies.
